The Techies 2018 supports Designability

The Techies is proud to announce that we are supporting local charity Designability as part of the 2018 awards.

Based in Bath, Designability is a national charity that transforms the lives of disabled people and those living with a long term health condition. Since 1968 they have completed over 300 projects that have benefited over 250,000 people, and they are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.

Caroline Grange, marketing officer at Designability said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as the charity to be supported at the inaugural Techies awards at Hartham Park. We celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2018 and the charity has a passion for creating life-changing assistive technologies. We are thrilled to be involved in the initiative and look forward to meeting Swindon and Wiltshire tech people on the night.”

Designability will be showcasing one of their innovative pieces of technology on awards night- the Wizzybug. The Wizzybug is a  powered wheelchair designed specifically for children under five who, due to their condition, are unable to walk at all, who can only walk with difficulty or who may need to save energy for other activities so that they can experience mobility and fun.

Anita Jaynes, founder of The Techies and its media partner The Business Exchange said: “I am delighted to support Designability as part of The Techies 2018 and couldn’t think of a more appropriate charity to team up with for the awards. I have seen first-hand how the charity and its Wizzybug changes lives, as one is used by a friend’s little girl with a life-limiting condition. I hope to raise as much as we can for Designability on the night.”
